Nestled in the South western part of Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the five destinations to see Gorillas in Africa.

It started as a protected forest reserve in 1932 but later declared as a national park in 1991 and it was named Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Bwindi spans three districts namely Kisoro, Kabale and Rukungiri. It covers a total area of 331 square kilometers and part of it is occupied by the impenetrable Bwindi forest.

This forest is known for its ability to thrive throughout the last ice age and is one of its kind in the Africa.

Its altitude range between 1160 and 2607 meters. It receives annual average temperatures which vary from 7 to 20 degrees Celsius.

Heavy drops start from March to April, September and November. Therefore it is no surprise that roads are muddy and slippery during this period. Then the rest of the months are dry.

This protected area provides a great habitat to a wide range of flora and fauna including the rare species of Gorillas.

Out of the 120 mammal species that inhabit Bwindi, eleven are primates including, wild chimpanzees, and Black and White Colobus monkeys.

Other enchanting allures are insects, reptiles, and birds. A part from Gorilla trekking, visitors to the Park enjoy various activities like bird watching, batwa community walks and more.
