Ruvubu National Park - Memories Africa Safaris

If you need wildlife in Burundi, Ruvubu is the best for you. It is the largest in the country and covers a total area of 508 square kilometers. Located in the north eastern Burundi, this park borders with the provinces of Karuzi, Muyinga, Ruyigi and Gankuzo

It is 216km from Bujumbura and its official name is Parc National de la Ruvubu. It was declared a national park in 1980 and got its name from Ruvubu River which streams through the park.

It is near Tanzania in the south and its altitude reaches as far as 1836 meters above sea level. Ruvubu River is responsible for the floodplains and papyrus swamps found in the park.

Apart from that Ruvubu National Park is home to beautiful flora and fauna. Wildlife in Ruvubu Park is abundant and visitors to the park spot different wildlife species.

Some of the common wildlife species are hippos, Nile crocodile, cape buffalos, various duiker species, and waterbucks, 5 primate species that include vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, Senegal bush baby, red colobus monkeys, and olive baboons.

About 400 various species enjoy the lush habitats of this protected area. Some of these are warblers, babblers, sunbirds, the papyrus gonolek to name but a few. Game drives and bird watching are the main activities that tempt tourists from various parts of the world.
